Kort verslag over het Balkan-project door Bojana Jovanovic van
Organization of Women "Lara" uit Bosnië Herzegovina en één van de Onderzoeksmentoren

Veertien organisaties uit 6 Balkan-landen hebben voor het eerst samengewerkt op het gebeid van geweld tegen vrouwen. Ze hebben op basis van het VN-vrouwenverdrag onderzocht wat er in hun landen bestaat aan wetgeving en beleid met betrekking tot huiselijk geweld en wat daaraan moet verbeteren. Hiervoor hebben ze gebruik gemaakt van de nieuw ontwikkelde ‘legal research method’. Daarnaast hebben ze uiteenlopende activiteiten uitgevoerd om huiselijk geweld aan te pakken. Dit varieerde van lobby, ontwerp wetsvoorstellen en het trainen van rechters en politie tot het opzetten voor centra voor councelling en SOS-hulplijnen. De organisaties hebben veel ideeën voor de toekomst om huiselijk geweld aan te pakken, op nationaal en regionaal niveau.

For women’s rights, against domestic violence
on Thursday 9 february 2006,
from 14.30-18.00 PM,
Brasserie Dudok Den Haag

Fourteen organizations from 6 countries in the Western Balkans have, for the first time, cooperated in the area of domestic violence. They scrutimized the laws, policies and practice in relation to domestic violence and the necessary improvements. In addition they undertook several activities to combat domestic violence, varying from lobby, draft legislation and the training of lawyers and policy to the establishment of centres for councelling en SOS-help lines. On 9 february they will present their experiences and discuss their ideas with the public. From 16.45 onwards there will be a small ceremony during which HOM will launch its newest product: the Health Rights of Women Assessment Instrument (HeRWAI), a practical tool for NGOs to use human rights in their lobby for women’s health. The working language of the meeting will be English.
