AIDA Nederland wordt met de ondergang bedreigd. De Raad voor Cultuur heeft in de lente aan staatssecretaris voor Cultuur Medy van der Laan geschreven, dat wat hun betreft AIDA mag verdwijnen. Een reden voor een groep gevluchte kunstenaars en de kunstenaarsvereniging Arti et Amicitiae een actietentoonstelling te organiseren. Voor de gevluchte kunstenaars, aldus de actievoerders, is het belang van het voortbestaan van AIDA overduidelijk. Zij vinden steun bij AIDA en de organisatie vormt vaak de enige band met de Kunst en Cultuur in Nederland. Gelijktijdig wordt voorkomen, dat de kunstenaars niet in een eigen cultureel isolement vastlopen. Maar dat niet alleen: ook Nederlandse kunstenaars verrijken zich aan ongekende nieuwe mogelijkheden voor artistieke uitwisseling. Kortom, actie is nodig om AIDA te redden. Het is de tentoonstelling "Van Azerbeidjan tot Stadskanaal" geworden.

Op Prinsjesdag (21 september) zal de staatssecretaris van Cultuur, mevrouw Medy van der Laan, haar besluit over het voortbestaan of het afschaffen van AIDA kenbaar maken. Het kan zijn, dat zij positief besluit voor AIDA en dan zal de actie een feestelijke apotheose zijn. Maar het is niet ondenkbaar dat de actie tot november zal moeten doorgaan, totdat het parlement van Nederland definitief besluit over AIDA.

Al sinds jaar en dag is vrijheid van meningsuiting een groot goed. Het zijn de schilders, schrijvers, dichters, muzikanten en filmmakers die de wereld aanschouwelijk maken en mede vormgeven. Ook de grafische wereld was en is daarmee onlosmakelijk verbonden. Om die reden hebben 36 Nederlandse drukkerijen en 36 Nederlandse vormgevers de handen ineengeslagen om met de 36 kunstenaars 36 affiches te maken. De 36 affiches vormen samen het 37e werkstuk, op straat en in de expositie.
De opening van de tentoonstelling zal verricht worden door de kunsthistorici Anna Tilroe en Jihad Abou Sleiman. De opening zal opgeluisterd worden door muziek. Vanaf 20.00 uur kan er in de sociëteit voor 8 euro gedineerd worden en zal er feest zijn tot in de late uurtjes.
Op donderdag 30 september vindt een uitgebreid cultureel programma "Kunst als geweten" plaats. Dichters, performers, en musici zullen vanaf 20.00 uur in de tentoonstellingszalen optreden.

AIDA Nederland is threatened with annihilation. Last spring, the ‘Raad voor Cultuur’ or Culture Council wrote to our Secretary for Cultural Affairs Medy van der Laan, that as far as they’re concerned, AIDA can go. This is why a group of refugee artists and artist-chapter Arti et Amicitiae to organise an ‘action-exhibition’. The need for the continued existence of AIDA is crystal clear, at least to them. They find support with AIDA and more often than not the organisation is the only link to Arts and Culture in the Netherlands. It also prevents artists from running aground in the swamp of cultural isolation. But not only that: Dutch artists too are enriched by the possibilities offered by the artistic exchange with the unknown. In short, action’s needed to save AIDA. This has resulted in the exhibition "From Azerbaijan to Stadskanaal".

Upcoming Prinsjesdag (Prince’s Day, September 21st), the Secretary for Culture, Medy van der Laan, will publish her decision about the continued existence of AIDA. In the case of a positive decision for AIDA, the action will have a festive apotheosis, of course. But it is not unthinkable that the action will have to be extended well into November, when Parliament makes its definitive decision.

Through the years, freedom of expression has been a valued right. It’s the painters, writers, poets, musicians and film-makers that depict the world in images, and thereby give it shape. Not surprisingly, the world of graphics design always had, and still has, close ties with this goal. For this reason 36 Dutch printing houses and 36 Dutch graphic designers have joined forces to create 36 posters, together with the 36 artists. These will form a joined 37th work, both on the streets, and within the exhibition.

The opening of the exhibition will be performed by art-historians Anna Tilroe and Jihad Abou Sleiman. It will be further enhanced with live music. Starting at 20:00 there will be an opportunity to dine at the club for the sum of € 8, -, followed by festivities well into the wee hours.

On Thursday 30th of September the extensive cultural program "Art as Conscience" will take place, where poets, performers and musicians will give an act of presence beginning at 20:00 in the exhibition’s halls.
